Starting on April 2017, we’ll be offering yoga for the special needs child every Thursday from 4 to 4:45 p.m. with Stephanie Ross.
Stephanie has completed her training with Yoga for the Special Child; a program developed over 40 years ago by Sonia Sumar for kids with various challenges. Although the program was developed for special needs children, it is a great program for all children as it includes physical poses, pranayama (breath work), call and response singing, eye exercises and time for relaxation. This all inclusive program will help increase flexibility, strength and mobility. It will also improve overall health and well being while enhancing: motor skills, hand eye coordination, speech and communication skills, lung capacity, confidence, ability to reduce stress and anxiety, concentration levels, body awareness for developing kids and teens and immunity levels to help keep students healthy during cold season. It also creates a sense of community where all are accepted as equals.
Yoga for kids of all ages is a program specifically designed for kids with Autism, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy and other Developmental Disabilities. It is also effective for ADD, ADHS and Learning Disabilities.
